About Us

Dr. Karen I. Fredriksen-Goldsen is the Principal Investigator of The National Health, Aging, and Sexuality Study: Caring and Aging with Pride over Time, the first national project to study health and well-being among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender older adults and their caregivers. She is a Professor at the University of Washington School of Social Work, Director of Healthy Generations Hartford Center of Excellence, and Director of Institute for Multigenerational Health. She is a Gerontological Society of America Fellow, Hartford Scholar, and Founder of the GSA Rainbow Research Group. Co-Investigators on this pioneering project are Drs. Charles Emlet, Hyun-Jun Kim, Anna Muraco, Chengshi Shiu, Sunghee Lee, Karina Walters, Susan Barkan, and Shilpen Patel, MD. Other contributors are Charlie Hoy-Ellis and Jayn Goldsen.

As part of this ground-breaking project we are building collaborations with community-based aging agencies across the nation serving LGBT adults to better understand aging and health within and across our communities. See Community Partners for a list of the agencies involved in this project.
